Did you know that the Courtenay and District Fish and Game Protective Association is a key partner in the region's Watershed Protection? The Association has transformed a former dry land sort for forestry into a dynamic space including a campground, salmon hatchery, clubhouse and multiple ecological and habitat restoration projects. The association is also actively engaged in programs that benefit Comox Valley communities including:

    • Working with the CVRD to provide land for the intake for the Water Treatment Plant
    • Running a Coho Hatchery in partnership with DFO to restock the Trent River.
    • Supporting habitat restoration projects in local streams, including Arden and Morrison Creek.
    • Supporting the work on the Cumberland Community Forest Society in protecting Perseverance Creek and the Comox Valley Land Trust in protecting the Morrison Creek Headwaters
    • Partnership with Ducks Unlimited for their wetlands acquisition program in the Comox Valley.
    • Monitoring fish stocks in local lakes

Join us for a tour of the site and learn more about the association, their conservation projects, and their connections with other Valley organizations. We will cap it off with a Public Talk overlooking the glacier Bring a chair or picnic blanket.

  • About Connected by Water

Connected By Water is a program of the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) designed to build capacity, community and connection to support drinking water and watershed protection efforts. Through exploring the natural, indigenous and settler history of the Comox Lake watershed, human impacts, ecosystem health and climate change scenarios, the Connected By Water team engages residents and visitors in the story of our watershed: how it works, how we have and continue to change it, and how we can ensure its health and climate resilience for future generations.

The Connected By Water program includes K-12 curriculum resources, community workshops, water and land based tours, presentations and interdisciplinary projects that help our community understand how we’re all “connected by water”.
