The On Your Mark Academic Support Program, now entering its 25th year offering support, is an after-school and weekend Tutoring and Academic Support program offered to students of Portuguese speaking descent and students of Spanish speaking descent in grades 1 to 12. Eligible students work with a tutor one-on-one or two students to a tutor. The program aims to support students with significant academic difficulties get help in their area(s) of need (e.g. Language, Math), in ENGLISH. Students receive help with their schoolwork, develop learning skills and establish goals for their education.

The aim of the program is to help students achieve a sense of positivity and academic success. Our program operates with volunteer tutors who do not necessarily have specializations in a broad range of special needs teaching.

If your child has any special needs due to Autism, ADHD or other needs that constitute behavioural or learning difficulties we may not be able to accommodate them in this program. We appreciate your understanding as it is key in ensuring that it has resources to help those students it can, as well as provide a positive experience for its volunteer tutors.

The Academic Support program runs from the end of October until the end of May. Students start as soon as they can be matched with a volunteer tutor. Sessions are 1 to 2 hours a week after-school or Saturday mornings ONLINE.

For our ONLINE sessions tutors and their students will be working in an online setting only and NOT in person. Volunteer supervisors will be managing the sessions in an online setting.

Participants can expect that the program will encourage:
 More regular completion of homework
 Improved academic achievement
 More positive attitude towards learning
 Increased self-confidence
 Exposure to positive role models

To qualify for the program, Students must:
 Be of Portuguese speaking descent or Spanish-speaking descent
 Be experiencing significant difficulties in one or more subjects
 Be enrolled full time in secondary school; grades 9–12 Registration also available for Elementary students as well. Please request the registration LINK from a Program Coordinator.
 Commit to meeting with a tutor online for a minimum of 1 hour per week
 Complete and submit a signed 2024/2025 Student Registration Form
 Submit the JUNE 2024 report card (once received from school).The Report card is mandatory in order to complete the registration process.

To qualify for the program, Parents/Caregivers must:
 Ensure that their child(ren) attend their online sessions on a consistent basis.

STEP 2. Submit JUNE 2024 Report Card (once received from school) via email to a Program Coordinator. A coordinator will reply to your email to confirm receiving the report card.

We urge parents/caregivers to try to submit the 2024/2025 Student Registration Form as soon as possible as the program anticipates a waitlist for this school year, please do not wait to receive the Report Card before submitting.

Registration for 2025/2026 school year re-opens: May 5, 2025

Availability: Sessions are held ONLINE once a week, please indicate your preference below.
Please select the After School OR Saturday or BOTH Programs (if either program works for the student). Only ONE program will be offered. Due to the nature of the matching process , please consider carefully which program you prefer, AFTER SCHOOL or SATURDAY or BOTH.

If you need to switch programs please do so before August 1st. After August 1st any switching of programs will result in the student being placed on the waitlist until a spot in that program becomes available.

After School Availability: The student will be given a time frame based on their age/grade and tutor availability within the 4:30pm to 6:30pm timeslot, for example from 5:00pm to 6:00pm or 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

CANCELLATION PROCEDURE:
Please be aware of our Cancellation Policy before completing the registration for the student. Tutoring sessions run continuously throughout the year with several holiday breaks. In order for the student to receive the maximum benefit of tutoring once a week we encourage a consistent attendance. Please note, Volunteer Tutors are giving of their time to be available for the student, tutors have made arrangements to be available for the allotted time with the student and we want to give them the courtesy of informing them of a cancellation as early as possible.

Parents/guardians of students in the program are asked to sign below as an agreement of enrollment and attendance. If your child does not meet the conditions below Program staff will have to remove the student from the program.

1. FIRST un-informed absence (not informing the Program Coordinator of your child’s absence) will result in an email to the parent/guardian.
2. A SECOND uninformed absence will result in a final warning email.
3. A THIRD uninformed absence will result in the student being removed from the program.

In addition, frequent notified cancellations will be addressed by Program Staff with parents/guardians via email and may lead to removal of the student.

PARENT CONSENT FORM:
I give permission for my child(ren) to participate in the On Your Mark Program in an ONLINE setting, where they will work with an On Your Mark tutor and supervisor. I understand that my child and I may need to complete surveys and/or interviews as part of the program evaluation process.

I also understand that I have to:
- Provide Program staff with a copy of the JUNE 2024 Report Card for my child (once received) in order to complete the registration process.
- Ensure that my child(ren) attend their online sessions on time and on a consistent basis. Students that have THREE un-notified absences will be removed from the program.
- Notify program staff of any absences/cancellations no later than 2:00pm, if possible, on the day of the session.
- Expect to be contacted by email in the event of lateness, absences, behaviour issues, cancellations or changes in schedule.
