    Description

    Our union is looking for motivated members to become part of our Summer Organizing Program. Position qualifications include:

    • Be a dues-paying member of our union
    • Self-motivated and self-directed
    • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work up to 20 hours a week 

    Goals: 

    Members will take the next step in developing organizing skills to build a strong, social justice union that advocates for the schools our students deserve. Members will also conduct organizing conversations with members and potential members to:

    • Recruit and engage members
    • Identify issues around which to organize our union
    • Identify leaders to become involved in the union

    Program Structures: 

    There are three different commitment options for this year's summer program. Organizers have the option to work up to 10 weeks at an hourly rate of $30/per hour throughout the summer. Start times for the program vary depending on the program structure(s) you are interested in. As an organizer, you will be expected to work between 10 to 20 hours a week depending on the structure you are interested in (distribution of hours throughout the week is flexible). Organizers will not work during the Fourth of July Week (June 30 - July 4). Program options include:

    4 Week Program (June 16 - July 18):

    10 hours a week for 4 weeks at $30/hour (Total of 40 Hours)

    1 Day Training in Madison on June 16

    8 Week Program (July 8 - August 29):

    20 hours a week for 8 weeks at $30/hour (Total of 160 Hours)

    2 Day Training in Kenosha on July 8 and July 9

    10 Week Program (June 16 - August 29)

    10 hours a week for 2 weeks at $30/hour and then 20 hours a week for 8 weeks at $30/hour (Total of 180 Hours)

    2 Day Training in Kenosha on July 8 and July 9 

    Skills/Abilities/Experience:

    Candidates interested in this position should possess the following:

    • Comfort having conversations with fellow educators
    • Skill in active listening
    • Ability to ask good, open-ended questions
    • Motivation to organize for the schools our students deserve

    Roles and Responsibilities: 

    Organizers will be expected to perform activities that include, but are not limited to:

    • One-on-one conversations
    • Planning and executing organizing events 
    • Weekly team meetings
