A workshop perfect for all levels — beginner through advanced — participants will create joyful, colorful, and expressive watercolor florals. An experienced instructor and professional artist, Dustan Knight will go over the materials and demonstrate everything step-by-step before you give it a go. Each participant is engaged with on an individual basis throughout the workshop, ensuring a fun, creative, and informative session for watercolorists of all levels!
The session will take place in the second-floor Hartson Gallery at 65 Water St, Newburyport, MA 01950. Please note that this workshop space is accessible only by stairs. If you anticipate this being a problem for you, please email us at education@newburyportart.org.
Materials to bring:
- Lunch!
- Watercolor paper (140 lb cold press Arches, 10 x 14 or larger)
- Support board and masking tape
- Plastic palette (or white paper plates, etc.)
- Assorted watercolor brushes
- Paper towels
- Two plastic water containers
- Pencil and eraser
- Saran wrap
- Watercolor paints, your choice but with suggestions as follows...
- Two yellows (lemon, cadmium)
- Two blues (cobalt, ultramarine) and a turquoise is always nice
- Two reds (rose and a red/orange such as cadmium red or similar)
- Pinks, purples, and oranges are fun, as is a strong green!

More about Dustan Knight
Dustan Knight is a professional artist, educator, and art writer. She earned her Masters in Fine Art from Pratt Institute in NYC and her MA in Art History from Boston University. She is a recipient of a NH State Fellowship for the Arts, a MacDowell Colony residency, and a past Cummington Artist Colony resident. Dustan is represented by galleries across the US, including Art Three in Manchester, the Ogunquit Art Association in Maine. She’s a contributing writer to Art New England, a frequent juror, and gives demonstrations and workshops in watercolor, art business, and art history. Her work has appeared in Watercolor Magazine, Daniel Smith, Cheap Joe’s and Ampersand Insider Newsletters. Dustan’s work is in many private and public collections, including Macy’s, Acme and Oracles as well as numerous hospitals and New Hampshire public buildings.
