  • Host - Whispers at Oak Street Beach

    Salary: $16.20 - $22 per hour

    Schedule: Part time, Full time

    Applicants who demonstrate a proficiency with Opentable reservation software will receive a higher priority and pay rate.

    Hosts are responsible for the initial, warm greeting and seating of guests, responding to reservation changes, taking reservations and messages, maintaining accurate guest counts and wait times and saying goodbye to all guests. 

    Essential Functions:

    • Warmly greet and seat guests in the restaurant 
    • Answer telephones, and take orders, messages and reservations

    Line Cooks are responsible for the preparation, production and presentation of all menu items.

    Dishwashers are responsible for washing and sanitizing all food service utensils and miscellaneous items such as plates, silverware, glassware, pots, pans, etc. Also responsible for assisting in maintaining the cleanliness of the back of house area. May have additional cleaning duties specific to the restaurant.

    • Operate and utilize the dish machine and cleaning supplies
    • Wash, sanitize and dry all kitchen utensils, equipment and other items placed in the dish area or as requested by Management and Staff

    Bussers are responsible for assisting the service team in exceeding the guest’s expectations.  Assists with Barista duties as directed. Teamwork, organization and good awareness are necessary for success in this position.

    • Clean and reset tables and transport dirty dishes to bus tub, tray or dish room

    Barbacks are responsible for stocking the bar, coolers and storage areas with appropriate items as well as maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards of these areas.  Assists the Bartender with side work, glass washing, bussing and restocking.  Also assists with Busser, Food Runner and Barista duties as directed.

    • Stock/restock appropriate areas of the bar with alcohol, glassware, ice and supplies
    • Arrange and set-up beverages, mixes, garnishes and supplies, and prepare drink mixes/batches for frozen drinks

    The General Manager (GM) is responsible for all aspects of restaurant operations, from staffing and financial performance to guest experience and compliance. The GM will work closely with ownership and senior leadershipto ensure Whispers at Oak Street Beach maintains its reputation for excellence and operates at peak efficiencythroughout the season.

    Key Responsibilities

    Leadership & Team Development

    • Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard new team members, ensuring a seamless hiring process.
    • Provide ongoing training, mentorship, and coaching, ensuring all employees meet service and performance expectations.
    • Work closely with kitchen and FOH staff to foster collaboration and communication between teams.
    • Create and post weekly staff schedules, balancing labor costs while ensuring proper staffing levels, while also accounting for Chicago's unpredictable weather.
    • Monitor team morale and communication to foster a positive and productive work environment.
    • Conduct regular employee performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to promote professional growth.

    Operations & Service

    • Supervise daily restaurant and bar operations, ensuring efficient and organized service.

    Facility & Compliance Oversight

    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to food safety, alcohol service, and workplace policies.
    • Must have a valid Food Handler’s Certification and BASSET Certification (or obtain prior to start).
    • Oversee facility maintenance and vendor coordination, ensuring all equipment and systems remain in optimal working condition.
    • Respond quickly to emergency repairs or operational issues that may affect service or guest experience.

    Qualifications

    • 3+ years of restaurant management experience, preferably in a high-volume, fast-paced setting.

    Gelato Servers are responsible for professionally and courteously taking, preparing, delivering and collecting payment for gelato for outdoor guests, confirming accuracy, proper packaging and collection of payment.
