This calculator has been updated!
As of August 17th, 2025 GHU's calculator has been updated to prioritize the sort of jobs we can most effectively help residents for, in order to best advise them on how they can maximize the incentives. Older versions of this calculator showed the total amounts eligible, but not how much things may have cost above and beyond the incentive levels.

The $1,200 tax credit for insulation is about to expire!
Because of recent Congressional legislation the 25c tax credit, 30% of what you spent on insulation and similar upgrades up to $1,200, is set to expire at the end of 2025! Sign up while you can, as projects undertaken before 2026 still count for this tax credit. Time remaining:
35% reduction: are you thinking of doing a larger renovation with multiple parts? If so, you can qualify for twice the IRA rebates if you achieve a 35% energy reduction. Doing so usually requires multiple projects within the home around the same time
*
Yes, I'd like to consider doing multiple projects to achieve a 35%+ energy reduction. I recognize that I will likely have to spend more to do bigger upgrades, but I'd qualify for additional IRA rebates with a 35% reduction
No, I'd like to focus on a 20%+ energy reduction, with fewer improvements needed
[Multifamily] - Is the property you considering here count as your primary residence? (if yes, you qualify for bonus tax credits)

Based on your answers, the rebates will not cover the full cost of the project you might consider. Would you like to learn more about the City of Milwaukee's "Me2 energy financing" program together with Summit Credit Union that can cover any remaining costs after rebates are applied?
Yes I'd like to learn more about up-to-$20,000 financing through Milwaukee's Me2 program. (As little as $206/mo, depending on project size and term)
No thanks, I'd be more interested in paying by check. Ask about our 5% discount for paying by check!

Based on your answers, we may be able to help you qualify for upgrades at low or even sometimes NO cost! But we need to perform an energy assessment first, and for that you need to gather a few forms.
*
I live in one of the green regions and I'd like to schedule a time to have someone from Green Homeowners United visit my home to see what I might be able to qualify for
I'd like to speak to someone by phone first (you'll be redirected to a form to schedule a call)
I live in one of the blue areas, let me know when 1+ person signs up in my area so we can coordinate visits
I live in the City of La Crosse, take me to a special sign up page!
The forms you will need to gather are (1) a recent utility bill, AND (2) one of the following. Let us know which you could gather for us:
Most recent year's federal income tax form showing your household earns less than the previously listed amount
Energy assistance enrollment letter
Medicaid enrollment letter
Foodshare/SNAP enrollment letter
We'd love to help you, to qualify for the IRA HOMES rebate you will need to sign up for an energy assessment of your home to unlock the rebates. Energy assessments cost $625, and qualify you for a $150 federal tax credit in and of themselves! We will go over the results with you after and guide you through your options by phone or video
*
I'm ready to schedule an energy assessment! ($625, you will be redirected)
I'm not ready to schedule an assessment, I would like to speak to someone at Green Homeowners United first (you will be redirected to a form to schedule a phone call)
I live in one of the areas above in Blue, let me know when another person in my area signs up!
