First Vice Chair Job Description
The First Vice Chair supports the Chair in a variety of ways, from planning and overseeing strategies to sitting on high-level policy meetings. Along with the Second Vice Chair, the position is part of the Chair's Advisory Board and an automatic State Central Commitee members. It includes regular meetings with the Chair and State Party officials that help foster relationships with political candidates and elected officials. The Vice Chairs can act on behalf of the Chair when necessary. It is important that both Vice Chairs are comfortable leading their own program areas, spearheading their own advancement projects, and developing their own supporting teams. They should be team players with an interest in improving the way DPBC serves Democrats across the County.
The First Vice Chair position involves both leadership and learning. It includes heading up programs that train and support Ward and Precinct Officers while serving as an integral member of the Executive Committee. Eligible candidates would serve as an advocate for strengthening the sense of community among Ward and Precinct Chairs while using existing tools to train and onboard new ones. Writing and editing, particularly of instructional content is a necessity for this role. A proficiency in--or a willingness to learn--the Google Workspace, graphic art software such as Canva, and outreach software such as Constant Contact is a plus. Because training is an evolving process, this person must be willing to review current training protocol and materials, identify best practices, and lead strategic efforts for improvement. Time commitments will vary, but will usually range from 7-10 hours a week until proficiency. An important goal will be development of leadership skills and important relationship building within the political and volunteer communities in Bernalillo County. From time to time, the First Vice Chair will be asked to step outside of this description and pitch in on team efforts, especially in high points in the election cycle.
