No-Cost Extension (NCE) Request
A No-Cost Extension (NCE) is an addition of time beyond the current end date of an award. As the phrase “no-cost” suggests, there is no additional funding provided by the sponsor. An NCE may be requested by the PI of a project if the project period end is approaching and there is a programmatic need to continue the research. There must also be sufficient funds remaining to cover the extended period and the effort/activities necessary to complete the project.
