This is an open-call application for workshops at the 2025 North American Taiko Conference in Phoenix, which will be held from August 29 - September 1, 2025 at the Phoenix Convention Center in downtown Phoenix. From the airport, the Convention Center is about 15 minutes by rail and 10 minutes by car. If selected, travel and lodging for artists will be funded by an advance payment, but artists are expected to secure their own accommodations.
This application will be open until October 21, 2024. Following the selection process, we will schedule follow-ups with selected artists for contracting. This contracting period will take place in November and December of 2024. Failure to respond for a follow-up meeting may result in forfeiture of selection.
In this application, you will be asked for information about yourself as well as potential workshops that you would like to instruct. Workshops can run 2-hours, 4-hours, or 8-hours. You may submit up to 5 distinct workshop proposals, but it is not necessary to provide all 5. The same workshop can be offered multiple times. You do not need to submit multiple of the same proposal.
If selected, a workshop instructor should expect to teach 8-12 hours over the three day conference, though longer or shorter schedules can be negotiated during the contracting phase. Our budgeted honoraria rate is $150 per hour of instruction. We will also make a pre-conference payment to help cover travel and lodging expenses. This is done as an upfront payment rather than reimbursement. Alternative payment models, such as taking classes when not teaching, are available for discussion during contracting.
There are 4 categories of workshops that are being evaluated: Foundational, Focus, Performance, and Applied. More information about these categories can be found here on our website. Please review this information before applying.
The applications are being reviewed by a 12-person Workshop Selection Committee that includes 5 members of the Host Committee (Arizona-based), 5 members of the TCA Board, a TCA Advisory member, and a TCA staff member.
Applicants are advised to propose workshops that demonstrate their strengths and interests, as well as fit the selected category.

This will be our first large-scale NATC since 2019, before the pandemic. We appreciate your interest in instructing and look forward to your application.
