Evaluators are an important part of making the competitions successful! As an evaluator, you help youth improve by giving them feedback based on a standard evaluation rubric and written constructive feedback. Evaluators take the perspective that they are an educator and are reviewing presentations to offer insights on what youth are doing well and where they need improvement.  

State 4-H Presentation Events are being offered either virtually, during a 2-hour time block offered between May 4-8, 2025, or in-person on Saturday, May 17, 2025 on the UC Davis Campus.

Eligibility
4-H volunteer leaders, 4-H staff, 4-H members (older than 16 years of age and not giving a presentation), and people from other organizations with experience in public speaking. 

Responsibilities

• Attend the evaluator orientation - Friday, May 2, 2025 at 6-7:30 p.m.
  
• Become familiar with the 4-H Presentation Manual.
• Evaluate 7-10 presentations during one time slot (or sign-up for multiple time slots).
• Complete the digital evaluation form and provide written positive and constructive feedback to help each presenter improve.

To ensure an appropriate evaluator-to-presenter ratio, we are modifying our presenter registration process. Presenter registration will be contingent on the number of evaluators already registered. Starting on March 18, 2025, and continuing every Tuesday through April 22, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., we will release presenter slots for youth participants based on the number of evaluators we have registered. Registration for presenter slots will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

Entering your cell phone is optional, but highly encouraged. We're asking for this so we can quickly contact you if necessary on the day of the presentations to help resolve issues as quickly as possible.

Presentations will happen in 2-hour sessions. Each session will have 7-10 presentations and 2 or 3 evaluators in each session. We will have several sessions happening at the same time in different rooms.

We will add more sessions as needed, based on evaluator availability and demand.
