• Gordon L. Beil Memorial STEM Scholarship Application

2025 Season - APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY FRIDAY, MAY 2, 2025 5:00pm EDST
  • SCHOLARSHIP BACKGROUND

The Gordon L. Beil Memorial STEM Scholarship was established upon his death on April 9, 2018.

Gordon was a life-long resident of Boone County.  He graduated from Boone County High School in 1969, then Cumberland College/University of the Cumberlands with a math major and biology minor, and completed his Masters in Education at Northern Kentucky University.  He began teaching math in 1973 at Conner High School where he remained through retirement in 2004, continuing to substitute teach for a total career of 31 years. Gordon was head of the school’s math department and had roles at CHS as coach for boys’ golf, girls’ basketball, bowling league, Men of Conner sponsor and football games videographer.

As a teacher, he brought his own style to his classes.  He instituted a Nickel Pencil Fund – students who came to class without a pen or pencil had to buy one.  That money plus his own funded his after-school math tutoring pizza parties before big tests, open to all math students.  Former students recall him as tough but fair, humorous, and several attributing “Taco” as their inspiration to become math teachers themselves or to pursue a STEM career.

The Beil family and friends (many who grew up in the Boone County Schools system) established this scholarship to honor his life, dedication to math and education, and long career at Conner High School.

Donations are gratefully accepted anytime, as this scholarship fund will be given annually for years to come to honor Gordon’s educator legacy.  Scholarship application and additional information are on The Beil Foundation website at www.BeilFoundation.org
