Dear Parents,
We at Jamboree Heights Outside School Hours Care believe that children should have the opportunity to develop their autonomy and learn new life skills. As part of preparation for year two, we would like to offer all year one students, starting 15th July 2024, the opportunity to walk themselves to and from OSHC rather than be collected and dropped off by a staff member. By doing so we are further supporting the My Time, Our Place outcome 1.2 which states that “children develop their autonomy, inter-dependence, resilience and sense of agency”.
JHOSHC’s standard policy allows staff to collect grade one students from their classroom. However, at the commencement of term three, we like to offer the students of year one the chance to develop their independence and maturity by allowing them (with parent permission) to walk to and from class, unsupervised.
If you believe your child is capable and would like them to participate in unsupervised transitions to and from class, please return the below tear of slip to JHOSHC at your earliest convenience.
We understand that not all parents wish to partake and would prefer children be escorted by staff. These children will continue to be accompanied whist walking between the OSHC building and their classroom by an educator. All children will continue this process until we receive the completed slip below or the end of the school year.
Warm regards,
JHOSHC Management
