  • Update as of June 2025:

Dr. Richter will take on any new patients at this point. She is, however, excited to announce that she will be supervising a veterinary behaviour resident in the Lower Mainland. Dr. Jagodich will see patients under Dr. Richter’s supervision out of Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital. Please fill out their referral form or contact them for more information: https://bbvsh.com

Dr. Richter will continue to offer vet-to-vet consultations as before.

  • NEW for Vet-to-Vet Consultations Jan 2025: Once an appointment has been confirmed, we will send an email with a link to a behaviour history form for you to forward to the client - Dr. Richter will now review this form for the consultation. This will have to be received 5 days before the consult or the consult will be cancelled with no exceptions - please make sure your client submits this form as soon as you receive it, we do not send reminders to the client. Your clinic will receive a confirmation email once the form was submitted to us as well as a copy of the form.

  • Referring Veterinarian Information

  • Information on vet-to-vet consultations:

Calls typically last between 20 and 30 minutes. Dr. Richter will propose a diagnosis and treatment plan for the patient, provide a brief overview of behaviour modification strategies, and recommend a qualified trainer in the area to implement behaviour modification. If Dr. Richter and the attending DVM jointly decide that a case is not suitable for treatment within the scope of general practice, we are currently only able to refer those to Dr. Caunce or Dudzic for direct care in BC.

It is important to note that the responsibility for ensuring an accurate diagnosis and for decisions on the prescription of medications lies with the attending DVM. The patient remains under the care of the referring clinic, not Dr. Richter and the client needs to be informed of this. Dr. Richter is a consultant to the attending DVM, and no contact will be made with the client.

  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON BILLING FOR VET-TO-VET CONSULTS:

Payment Method: Payment is accepted only through CREDIT CARD via the invoice 2 days before the consult. NO OTHER PAYMENT METHODS will be accepted. Exceptions cannot be made.

Please ensure that you inform your accounting department about this policy to facilitate a smooth billing process.

Your understanding and cooperation in adhering to these guidelines are greatly appreciated.

  • TERMS OF SERVICE

By submitting this form, you are referring the patient to Dr. Richter for behavioural treatment, contingent upon the client's agreement and scheduling of a consultation. Once behavioural treatment has been completed and the patient is stable, we will refer them back to you with instructions on ongoing care if required. As long as the client agrees, you will receive reports of our consultation(s) with the client and medication updates.

We kindly request that all past and future records of visits, laboratory results, and other diagnostics be forwarded to our clinic when this patient is seen by your practice. This allows us to consider any underlying or concurrent medical conditions when formulating a behavioural treatment plan and prevents the unintentional prescription of incompatible medications.

We recommend that patients undergo annual basic laboratory testing (CBC, Chemistry, UA) with their primary care provider. Any lab results obtained at your clinic should be reviewed with the attending DVM, even if they were recommended by Dr. Richter. Dr. Richter will focus solely on the behavioural aspects of the results.

We ask that any behavioural medications prescribed by Dr. Richter not be altered or discontinued without her input, except in cases of medical emergencies, unexpected acute side effects, or if the client decides to remove Dr. Richter from their pet's care. For all other dosage changes or inquiries, please advise the client to contact our clinic.

Additionally, please avoid prescribing additional behavioural medications without Dr. Richter’s input unless a behavioural emergency arises or the client requests to discontinue Dr. Richter’s services. This helps prevent duplicating medications (especially controlled substances), prescribing incompatible treatments, or repeating medications that have already been tried. As you know, clients may not always remember prior treatments, and we may not have full access to the updated medical record at the time of consultation.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
