Channel Islands Women’s Sailing Association (CIWSA) needs your help to host our 3rd Annual AdventureSail® Day, Saturday, June 29, 2024! Again this year, we are partnering with the Channel Islands Maritime Museum (CIMM), the Tall Ship MYSTIC WHALER (Central Coast Ocean Adventures Foundation, CCOAF), and Channel Islands Yacht Club (CIYC) to provide a full day’s programming about "Women and Sailing Across the Ages.” This event is offered at no charge to a maximum of 40 girls, ages 9-14, who might not otherwise have an opportunity to experience sailing. Each girl may bring one accompanying adult, if desired.
The day will begin and end at Channel Islands Yacht Club (“CIYC”), 4100 Harbor Blvd, Oxnard, CA, with arrival and check-in at 9:00AM and conclusion at approximately 4:30PM. Throughout the day participants will interact with women who sail and women who work in the marine or science (“STEM”) world. In the morning, participants will split into 3 groups and attend separate short programs to be held at CIMM, CIYC, and MYSTIC WHALER, which will include sailing images, stories, and hands-on activities. Volunteers at CIYC will engage the girls and accompanying adults in various activities to introduce them to modern sailing basics.
In the afternoon, up to 50 passengers will sail aboard MYSTIC WHALER for a few hours on the ocean with Captain Christine Healy and crew, and the rest will sail aboard more modern boats skippered and crewed by local volunteers. After sailing, all will return to CIYC for a complimentary lunch, discussion about the day, talk about the future, and event conclusion. Volunteers, including Skippers, Crew, and Donors are welcome to attend the lunch to share their feedback and ideas for the future, too.
