Cardboat Boat Race Rules:
- All boats must be built of ONLY corrugated cardboard; no wood, metal, metal screws, or styrofoam for holding.
- Duct tape is permitted.
- Contestants may waterproof their boat with one-part substance paint; these can be easily obtained at a paint or hardware store.
- Contestants are not allowed to use any substance which might be harmful to the environment.
- Decorations may be made from any material but may not be used to reinforce the actual structure of the boat.
- Contestants should take care to ensure that the construction of your boat does not include pointed projections and sharp edges that might cause personal injury.
- There must be 2 contestants in each boat.
- Contestants must be at least 16 years of age.
- Contestants must provide their own oars/paddles.
- Life jackets and protective footwear must be worn during the race (Life jackets will be provided; contestants must provide their own protective footwear)
- All boats must display the assigned entry number on the vertical surface of the boat.
- All boats are subject to inspection by Marigold Committee Members and Race Judges prior to the event. Any boat that is found to not be in adherence of the rules will be disqualified with no refund.
Event Details:
- There will be no practice round prior to the actual race.
- Boats will launch from the Mineral Springs Park Lagoon Boat Dock.
- The fastest boat to make it 200 yards will be the champion.
- Awards and cash prizes will be given after the conclusion of the event.
- Contestants are encouraged to bring a towel and change of clothes.
IDENTIFICATION: Photo ID must be presented at check in to verify age.
LIABILITY WAIVER: A waiver must be signed at the event during check in. Any participants under the age of 18 will require a parent's signature.
INDEMNIFICATION: The Organization agrees to hold harmless and indemnify the Marigold Festival Committee, the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce, their individual members, officers or agents from any and all claims arising out of the Organizations participation in the Parade. In the event the Committee must retain legal counsel by reason of default or breach of any terms or conditions of this Agreement by the Organization, the Organization agrees to pay all such attorneys’ fees and any and all associated costs or expenses incurred by the Committee in connection therewith.
MISCELLANEOUS: Should these Rules be interpreted as contradicting any state or local laws or ordinances, it is agreed that such law shall supersede these Rules. Should any provision herein be held unconstitutional or otherwise invalid, it is agreed that all other provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
