I will strive to embody compassion/kindness (daya), integrity (sat), humility (nimrata), contentment (santokh), generosity (parupkar) and a Gurmat inspired understanding of humanity in my words and actions in order to create an environment that nurtures individuality and respect.
I forsake the privilege to put any self-interested (ahankar) and personally driven thoughts, opinions, and attitudes (haumai) above Gurmat and the Jakara Movement’s commitment to a safe, nonjudgmental, inclusive, and compassionate environment.
I will strive to practice good judgment in regards to sharing my ideas or taking a step back in conversations as I know that it is just as important for leaders to actively listen to understand rather than to always speak; I will strive to give space for dialogue to others over myself when doing so will facilitate the progress of the conversation and/or growth of my peers.
I will strive to act in accordance with Gurmat values, inside and outside of school and events, as I understand I uphold the values of the organization in everything I do.
I understand that I must complete the full one year (Fall & Spring semesters) of the internship. Failure to do so will result in a meeting with my lead and health director, as well as forfeiting my stipend.
As part of my oath of behavior, I will strive to set an example for myself and others, and not indulge in intoxicants (cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, etc.). Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action from the governing committee.
I will uphold all of these principles.
