The Greater New York City Black Nurses Association is looking to honor individuals who have positively impacted the field of nursing and promoting a high quality of healthcare for people of color.
Criteria for All Awards
Nominators are responsible for submitting a complete application packet. Incomplete packets will not be considered. All Nominators Must Complete the Following: 1. A completed Application Form (see attached).2. A letter of recommendation documenting contributions to professional, community and/ or scholarly activities. All materials are due on August 30th, 2024. Materials must be submitted electronically at: gnycbnascholarship1@gmail.com. Please direct questions to gnycbna@gmail.com. Award recipients will be notified in September 2024. Award presentation will be made during the Greater New York City Black Nurses Association Scholarship and Awards Ceremony on October 19, 2024.
Criteria and Purpose of the Friend of Nursing Award
The Friend of Nursing Award is to recognize individuals and organizations that are ineligible for regular membership but have impacted the chapter, the local nursing or health care community, and/or the health of people of color in a significant way. Nominations can be accepted only from chapter members. Examples of individuals and organizations that may be nominated (not an inclusive list):
● A member of a nursing school support staff who consistently exceeds the expectations required of his or her job.
● Non-nursing staff who have taken additional steps to help nursing students at their university.
● Individuals who have made significant contributions to nursing or to advance the nursing profession or the health of people on a local or regional level.
● A local business that consistently sponsors the chapter or donates time, money, resources, or services for chapter events.
Criteria and Purpose of the Nurse Educator of the Year Award
The purpose of the Nurse Educator of the Year Award is to recognize outstanding contribution to professional and/ or patient education. Nominations can be accepted only from chapter members. Criteria:
● Outstanding achievement in the education of professionals or patients.
● Current employment with responsibility for education.
● Evidence of sharing educational expertise through scholarly contributions.
● Must not be a current board member or held a GNYCBNA Board position 2 years prior to date of application.
Criteria and Purpose of the Nurse Administrator of the Year
The Purpose of the Nurse Administrator of the Year Award is to recognize excellence in clinical practice as a nurse administrator. Nominations can be accepted only from chapter members. Examples of individuals that may be nominated (not an inclusive list):
• Must be a registered nurse.
• Current employment as an upper /middle manager or administrator.
• Must not be a current board member or held a board position 2 years prior to date of application.
• Is employed by a health care institution or agency.
• Has displayed excellence as a patient advocate, mentor and role model for other nurses.
Criteria and Purpose of the Advanced Practice Nurse of the Year Award
The purpose of the Advanced Practice Nurse of the Year Award is to recognize outstanding contribution to advance practice nursing. Nominations can be accepted only from chapter members. Criteria:
• Outstanding achievement in the education of professionals or patients.
• Current employment as an advance nurse practitioner and have not have held a board position 2 years prior to date of application.
• Working full time as a Nurse Practitioner
Criteria and Purpose of the Nurse of the Year Community Service
To recognize outstanding and exemplary community service. Nominations can be accepted only from chapter members. Criteria:
• Outstanding achievement in the education of professionals or patients.
• Must be a Registered Nurse that has demonstrated exemplar service to the community
• Must not be a current board member.
• Must not have held a Board position 2 years prior to date of application.
Criteria and Purpose of the Nurse Researcher of the Year
To recognize a nurse researcher who has a terminal degree (PhD, DNP, or EdD) and has completed an outstanding research study and who has excellent potential to develop and implement a program of research that contributes to the well being and health care of minorities.
• Outstanding achievement in the field of research.
• Must have assumed primary responsibility for conceptualization, design, and conduct of the completed research study.
• Must not be a current board member and has not held a Board position 2 years prior to date of application.
Criteria and Purpose of the Clinical Staff Nurse of the year
The purpose of the Staff Nurse of the Year Award is to recognize a staff nurse with outstanding contribution to nursing and demonstrates nursing leadership. Criteria:
• Outstanding achievement in caring for patients.
• Current employed as a nurse in a hospital or healthcare facility.
• Must not be a current board member and has not have held a Board position 2 years prior to date of application.
Criteria and Purpose of the Nurse Entrepreneur of the Year
The Greater New York City-Black Nurses Association, Inc Nurse Entrepreneur of the Year Award was established to recognize a successful business owner within the field of healthcare. Criteria:
• Must be the founder of an existing business
• Must not be a current board member or have held a board position 2 years prior to date of application.
Criteria and Purpose of the Student of the Year
The Greater New York City-Black Nurses Association, Inc Student Nurse of The Year Award was established to recognize a successful student nurse. Nominators must be current members of The Greater New York City-Black Nurses Association, Inc.
• Must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program
• Must be in good academic standing
