Presentation Proposal

Mental Health America of Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio is dedicated to promoting mental health and working to prevent mental and substance use disorders through education, advocacy, and service. We provide safety net services, and community, and professional education, and we're the regional experts in Certified Peer Support. Whether it is from through a program you run, advocacy you have done, clinical care considerations, or your own lived experience, we know you have inspiring mental health and addiction breakthroughs that others need to hear. New treatments, evidence-based practices, stigma-busting community programs, and topics that are drivers of the social determinants of health are critical to our programming, and we would love to showcase your work and expertise as a subject matter expert.

Intersectionality in Mental Health

Intersectionality in mental health acknowledges that an individual's mental health does not exist in isolation from the identities they hold in regards to gender, sexuality, religion, age, class, ability, race, ethnicity etc. We seek presentations that account for intersectionality in how they present on a chosen topic. For example: Presenters in this session will take time to acknowledge the multiple forms of systemic discrimination that block people from accessing substance use care. Presenters will ask attendees to consider how their policies and practices may deter clients from bringing their whole identity to a therapeutic setting. This session will feature voices of those most affected by poor access to transportation and food insecurity. The speakers in this session will address how their data collection might have overlooked experiences of individuals with intersectional identities.
