Election materials authorisation form Logo
  • Election materials

  • Candidates must obtain authorisation from the Returning Officer for any material that is intended to be used in campaigning (election material). Without limiting the scope of materials covered, this includes leaflets, banners, posters, t-shirts, and websites including social media pages.

Election materials must be submitted to the Returning Officer at least two business days before the polling period opens. After that, only alterations to previously approved materials may be allowed.

The Returning Officer may withhold approval on grounds that the election materials constitute or contribute to prohibited conduct.

Election materials, whether online or on campus, cannot be displayed until after 3 pm the day before the polling period begins and must be removed two academic days after the polling period closes.

Candidates using websites or social media pages to campaign must submit the URL to the Returning Officer for authorisation. The authorised page must display the statement "Page authorised by the Returning Officer". Election materials on an approved page do not need separate approval, but the Returning Officer can require the removal of any materials.
