Beginning August 1, 2024 the CDC will be requiring all dogs entering or returning to the United States to meet the following criteria prior to arrival at the port of entry.
- Be at least 6 month of age at the time of entry or return to the U.S.
- Have an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) compatible microchip
- This must be implanted or confirmed by a USDA licensed veterinarian prior to any required rabies vaccination
- Appear healthy upon arrival
- Dogs may not enter the U.S.A. if they are carrying a disease contagious to people
- Have a CDC Dog Import Form Receipt
- Have additional documentation which varies depending on where the dog has been in the 6 months before entering of returning to the U.S or if the dog has a current rabies vaccine administered in the U.S.
