The Mission of the Dr. Brenda White Wright Emerging Leaders Academy is:
“To identify, encourage, and support students as they develop knowledge and skills to become effective servant leaders at ETSU and beyond."
Nominees must be current full-time first- and second-year students in “good standing” at ETSU and have an interest in developing leadership skills. Please help us by only nominating students who have not been in a leadership role on campus but have the potential to be leaders. Current involvement in a student organization or in campus activities is not required. It is the intent of the program that participants will have an opportunity to apply the leadership skills gained from the Academy on campus in the coming years. It is a priority of the program to create a diverse group.
The Emerging Leaders Academy is grounded in the concept of Servant Leadership. Dr. Brenda White Wright describes, “Leadership is not about you. It’s always about others. Do for someone else what was done for you. Do it not for the recognition but for the value it brings to the lives of others.” This concept is a fundamental piece of the Emerging Leaders Academy and those participating in the academy are expected to affirm these principles.
This program requires attendance at an overnight, three-day “Advance” and weekly sessions throughout the semester. The weekly sessions will be held each Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., January through March. The “Advance” and weekly meetings are important for success in this program and therefore must be made a priority. All aspects of the program are provided at no charge to the student.
