Details:
This is a privately held event not associated with any organizations.
The course is considered extreme, being approximately 300 x 200 yards.
10 sheds will be hidden in a plot that consists of hard wood, planted pines, and a food plot.
Each dog will have 15 minutes to find as many sheds as possible.
One judge will be in a deer stand, one will be on the sidelines. They will be in communication with each other via walkie talkie. Judges will assist hunter via walkie talkie with staying in bounds and determine if finds are appropriate- see rules below.
A golf cart will be used to bring the dog and hunter to the start line and return them to the event area. The dog may ride on the seat of the golf cart or stand on the floorboard. While the next dog is being picked up, the sheds for the next dog will be hidden. If your dog will not tolerate this, please let us know at the sign in desk at check in and we will accommodate.
Sheds will be natural as if a deer shed them with with minimal training scent applied. However, sheds will be fresh from the deer cooler from this season.
Sheds will be placed in 5 search areas- the beginning (2), middle (2), end (2), left (2), and right (2) of the course.
Four out of the ten sheds will be partially covered in pine needles and/or leaves but still be visible.
Rules:
One dog per entry is allowed on the course at a time. A hunter may enter up to two dogs, but that will count as a separate entry (and entry fee) and run.
If a hunter wants to enter a third dog, it must be with another handler.
Each dog and handler will have 15 minutes to search the woods.
Orange must be worn by hunter- for safety and for judge to see them. An orange vest is provided.
Dog must have great recall, be on e-collar, or be on leash (long lines are appropriate).
Hunter must utilize dog to the dog’s best ability to find shed- but if hunter walks up on the shed and finds it themselves without the dog, that is considered a find. We are mimicking a real life shed hunt- and sometimes that will happen. However, the hunter must call the dog over to the shed and the dog must show interest in the shed by pawing at, picking up, barking at, or touching the shed.
If all 10 sheds are found, hunter must raise hand and say “done” in their walkie talkie for timer to stop.
The dog with the most finds, or finds all 10 the fastest wins.
Note: To ensure the event runs smoothly and in a timely manner, please only let dog off leash if you are confident they will be easy to catch when time is called. In the event the dog runs off and takes more than 5 minutes to recall, that will result in an elimination.
