The Mission of the Dr. Brenda White Wright Emerging Leaders Academy is:
“To identify, encourage, and support students as they develop knowledge and skills to become effective servant leaders at ETSU and beyond."
The Emerging Leaders Academy is grounded in the concept of Servant Leadership. Dr. Brenda White Wright describes, “Leadership is not about you. It’s always about others. Do for someone else what was done for you. Do it not for the recognition but for the value it brings to the lives of others.” This concept is a fundamental piece of the Emerging Leaders Academy and those participating in the Academy are expected to affirm these principles.
The Academy is designed for students who have not yet been in a leadership role on campus but have great potential to be leaders. Applicants must currently be full-time first- and second-year students in academic and judicial “good standing” at ETSU and have an interest in developing leadership skills. It is the intent of the program that participants apply the leadership skills gained from the Academy on campus in future years. It is a priority of the program to create a diverse group.
This Academy requires attendance at an overnight, three-day “Advance” and weekly meetings throughout the semester. The weekly meetings will be held each Monday night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. mid January through March. The “Advance” and weekly meetings are important for success in this program and therefore must be made a priority. All aspects of the program are provided at no charge to the student.
What happens after students apply for the Emerging Leaders Academy? Once all applications are received, the ELA Selection Committee will meet and review all applications. Students selected for an interview will be notified by email after their application has been processed.
The interview process will be emailed to all students who complete an application with dates and locations included. Students who are selected will be notified and congratulated by November 8th, 2024.
