Lā-au Pono Statement (optional)
Submitting this statement makes you eligible to be awarded the Lā-au Pono Award.
Open to all divisions, this award considers selection of Hawai‘i-grown woods, application of materials, marketing potential, and the entry’s ability to exemplify the inherent value of Hawaii’s lā‘au & forest resources past, present, & future. In this statement you should document your interpretation of lā‘au pono from source to finished product, including use of responsible practices & materials, & explain how their entry & creative process honor Hawaii’s woods and forest resources. To begin, you may want to answer the questions: Where did you source the wood that was used in your piece(s)? Was the wood harvested responsibly? Do you know any stories or history of the tree(s) from which the wood in any of your pieces came from? What makes the way you produce, as a woodworker, responsible, sustainable, and 'pono'? Write about each piece that you want to be eligible for this award, being sure to clearly specify the piece(s) by title. Separate your Statements for each piece by writing them in separate paragraphs.
Do any of your entries have an interesting story to tell, for which you'd like to submit additional information, such as extended descriptions, storyboards with text and/or images? We will follow up with you via email.
Yes, please follow up with me. I would like to submit further information.
