CONTEST DESCRIPTION & RULES
1. Contest Overview
The Pomo Art Contest invites all Pomo artists to creaqte a flag that embodies the rich cultural heritage, unity, and pride of all Pomo people. The winning design will be used as our official Pomo flag, representing all Pomo communities and fostering a sense of togetherness and identity.
2. Eligibility
- Open to all Pomo artists: Participants must be of Pomo descent.
-Age Requirement: Participants must be at least 16 years old.
- Individual Entries: Each Participant may submit only one entry.
- Original Work: Submissions must be original and created solely by the artists.
3. Design Requirements
- Cultural Representation: Designs must incorporate traditional Pomo designs, imagry, and cultural elements that symbolize unity and pride.
- Symbolism: The flag should represent all Pomo people, highlighting shared values, history, and heritage.
- Format: Your submission may be designed and finished in watercolor, paint, color pencil, or other like medium. You are also welcome to use a high resolution digital format with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI.
- Demensions: The design should be suitable for a flag of three feet by five feet (3X5).
- Color Scheme: Artists are encouraged to use a maximum of six colors. Colors should be vibrant and meaningful, reflecting Pomo art and culture.
4. Submission Guidelines
- Submissions Period: Entries must be submitted by July 31, 2024.
- Submission Method: Send your completed submissions to The Progressive Tribal Alliance via our website www.progressivetribalallliance.com and use the art "SUBMISSION" button to upload your completed submission.
- Submission Form: Complete the online submission form at www.progressivetribalalliance.com , providing your name, contact information, and a brief description of your design and it's cultural significance.
- Consent: By submitting an entry, artists consent to the use of their design by The Progressive Tribal Alliance for promotional purposes, with appropriate credit given.
5. Judging Criteria
- Cultural Relevance: How well the design represents Pomo heritage, symbols, and values.
- Creativity and Originality: The uniqueness and artistic creativity of the design.
- Aesthetic Appeal: Visual impact and overall aesthetics of the flag design.
- Symbolism: The depth and clarity of the message conveyed through the design.
- Versatility: How well the design translates into a flag and other promotional uses.
6. Judging Process
- Panel of Judges: A panel of judges consisting of Pomo elders, cultural experts, and professional artists will review the submissions.
- Judging Period: Judging will take place from August 1, 2024 thru August 10, 2024. The winner will be announced on August 11, 2024.
- If there is a Tie Vote: If for some reason there is a tie vote in the judging, the PTA Board will vote using the same aforementioned guidelines, and determine a winner.
7. Prize Winner
- The Winner: The winner of the PTA Pomo Art Contest will receive a $1,000 check, official recognition, the design will be shared across all media platforms, used in merchandising and on promotional items, Moreover the design will be used as the official Pomo flag.
8. Winner Announcement
- Announcement Date: The winner will be announced on August 11, 2024 through the Progressive Tribal Alliance website and social media channels.
9. Terms and Conditions
- Ownership: The winning design will become the property of The Progressive Tribal Alliance, which will have exclusive rights to use, reproduce, and modify the design.
- Acknowledgment: The artist of the winning design will be credited whenever the flag is used.
- Disqualification: Any entry found to be plagiarized or not meeting the contest rules will be disqualified.
- Amendments: The Progressive Tribal Alliance reserves the right to amend the contest rules if necessary, with prior notification to the participants.
