  • This program is open to students who demonstrate:

    *Scholarship-by maintaining a minimum of a "B" 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale *Leadership-by serving in leadership positions in school, church, or community organizations (i.e. student government, school clubs, church groups)*Character-by setting a good example for his/her peers, maintaining a positive attitude and exhibiting qualities of good citizenship and ethical behavior*Community service -by volunteering his/her spare time to help those in need and being of service to local groups, businesses, and neighborhood organizations

  • APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING:

    1) A resume 2) A 500 to 1,000 word typed essay 3) High school or college transcripts verifying GPA
  • Essay Guidelines

    Essays must be typed and double spaced with no misspelled words or incomplete sentences. Please number pages.
  • These simple steps will guide you through the essay writing process

    1) Select from one of two following topics: How will receiving a scholarship from the PBC Caucus of Black Elected Officials impact your educational career? or The impact of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) on the future. (Education and Workforce) Prepare an outline of your ideas 3) Write your thesis sentence. It must be a complete sentence. Ensure that your entire essay supports that ONE topic throughout the essay 4) Write the body: a) the body is made up five paragraphs. The first paragraph is the introduction and it should consist of no less than three to five sentences b) each second, third, and fourth paragraphs should also consist of topic sentences of no less than three to five complete sentences supporting the thesis of the essay c) conclusion-this fifth paragraph should consist of no less than three to five sentences bringing the entire essay to a close
