Your score in the box below will range from 8 to 32. A higher score indicates that you are more hopeful. Some of the questions (1, 4, 6, 8) measured your pathways score - the ability to generate several workable routes towards a goal. A hopeful person will tend to find other options when their main route is blocked. Other questions (2, 9, 10, 12) measured your motivation or agency score. Knowing how to go about something isn't enough, you also need to be able to start, and keep going. Finally, some of the questions (3, 5, 7 and 11) were actually distractors, and didn't count towards your score. Often, participants would also complete the questionnaire without knowing what exactly was being measured. These strategies are intended to generate more reliable answers. It's important to note that, as we discussed in the session, this is only a model of hope. There seems to be an element of hope that is distinct. Even when we can't see how exactly a goal will be achieved, we can still have hope.
