Registration and Enrollment
• Enrollment is not guaranteed until fees/paperwork are submitted prior to the first class.
• Class placement is based on the age if under 16 years, and ability of each student at the teacher’s discretion.
• Please inform 24 hours in advance if you will be missing class as it helps to plan for the group as a whole.
• Money is not refunded and fees are not adjusted for classes missed. Please plan to attend a makeup class for missed classes. You may make up one class per month by attending another class, or schedule a 15 min complimentary private via zoom to learn what was missed up to 4 times per year, only after reviewing the class videos.
• Confirmation of make-up class should be made prior to attending, including zoom attendance.
Attendance/Homework
• Students who miss 5 or more classes in a quarter, or fail to submit homework assignments may be restricted on performance opportunities and placement as there is a marked difference in the skill set of students who regularly practice, participate, and attend vs the students who do not. Students who miss class are still expected to submit homework.
• Students are expected to review recorded lessons from the previous week, practice regularly, and are responsible for completing and submitting homework.
• Parents are expected to share videos and worksheets from class, to help them stay on top of the material. Parents may be asked to submit photo/video assignments for younger students.
• All students must have their Kathak notebooks with them in class for note taking or reference
Classroom Guidelines
• Arrive to class 5 minutes early to tie ghungroo (bells) and pick your child up promptly after class. Nrityanvita Kathak Academy is not responsible for children before or after their class session. Parents are also responsible for monitoring siblings during class time. Parents can watch the first few classes, but otherwise, please drop your kids off and pick them up after class.
• Please leave your footwear outside the dance space to maintain a clean environment, and to follow the conduct of Kathak schools.
• Ghungroos (bells) should be worn prior to class starting. Help your child wear their bells, if needed.
• Do Pranam to mother earth, your Guru, and your ghungroo before and after each class
• No food, drinks or chewing gum are permitted in the dance studio, only water.
• Restrooms should be used before or after class.
Attire - Please consider attire as a uniform for class similar to a ballet class or sport like soccer.
• Students should wear a long non-transparent kurta with leggings. Adults should wear a dupatta, neatly pinned. If your pants or leggings do not reach the bottom of your ankle, you must wear ankle socks.
• Students are required to purchase their own ghunghroos (ankle bells) once they’ve passed the “ghungroo test.” Please note that the bells should be strung and not on a belt. Bells are available for purchase at our academy. Once you start wearing them, they must be worn to every class.
• The following are deemed NOT APPROPRIATE attire for Kathak class: jeans, shorts, capri pants, and skirts/dresses without full-length leggings underneath.
• All hair must be secured and off the face. Long hair must be tied back.
Recording
• No video or audio recording without permission.
• All new class material will be recorded at the end of each class and shared in your class whatsapp group for you to use for practice.
