 Ballet provides a strong foundation for all theatre dance styles. Most college musical theatre programs require at least one semester of ballet and often the auditions for these programs include a short ballet sequence. Get a leg up on this challenging requirement (pun intended!).

Taught by Actress/Dancer Zoe Czerenda, this class will be geared toward the beginner teen actor/dancer!

 

6 Week Acting & Improv Class Series with Robin Frome 

Ages 13+

The teen theater/improv class consists of the study of scenes and monologues appropriate to their age and assessed skill level. Each student will take on a part in a scene or monologue designed to be presented culminating performance at the end of each session. We approach each character for these pieces using the basic Stanislavski method no matter the genre. The basic questions involved explore "What does the character want, that character's basic objective of the scene? What is he or she willing to do to get to that objective? And what are the risks involved?" We also delve into the dramaturgical aspects of the scenes or monologues. In the past, we have explored Shakespeare, Pinter, Miller, Wilder and offerings of theatrical versions of literature, including Anne of Green Gables and Little Women. All of these genres have specific historical and social circumstances, and we delve into their pertinence accordingly. (For example, we would discuss the specific attitudes each character would have in a Little Women scene that would affect their behavior concerning the American Civil War which is the key background to that plot.) We also include some voice, diction and physical exercises to maintain their 'instruments' and some practical tutelage in stage dialects and stage combat.

 

We balance each session with a series of improvisation games that strengthen the students' stage presence, imagination and concentration necessary for their continuing success in their performance curriculum.  

 

6 Week Theatre Dance Class Series with Scott Wise 

Ages 13+

Beginning Friday, October 4th

With over 30 years of Broadway experience, Scott Wise has a near endless repertoire of original choreography in his head. Scott understands from his own personal experiences working with great choreographers—Jerome Robbins, Michael Bennet, Gwen Verdon, Ann Reinking, Twyla Tharp, and Rob Marshall—that acting, intention, and style are of utmost importance! Students will dance, act, and sing.

Repertory will include original choreography from Broadway shows, as well as newly created choreography.  

6 Week Vocal Performance Class Series with Scott Wise 

Ages 13+

Beginning Saturday, October 5th
1:00-3:00pm

 Performing a song in front of a small group or a large audience may look easy, but the performance within a musical or cabaret setting must have intention, move the audience emotionally, and be entertaining.

 

Our team brings years of experience on Broadway and at the college level to your child’s training. Students work on safe and proper vocal technique, the exploration and process of creating a vocal performance, handling performance anxiety, building confidence, and audition techniques for high school, local theatre, and college auditions!

Triple Threat Class Series

Hone your technique this fall and work to become a Triple Threat performer!

The Triple Threat Series brings together the three disciplines of acting, singing, and dancing into a unified whole. The series will comprise of weekly classes in Ballet, Theatre Dance, Vocal Performance, and Acting/Improv with an emphasis to strengthen each of the elements equally to create a well-rounded Triple Threat performer. The Triple Threat classes prepare the students to meet the challenges of college auditions, school musicals, talent shows, and professional auditions. 

This series is recommended to all high school musical students!
