L'Arrière Scène Backstage
L'Arrière Scène Backstage supports singer-songwriters from Western, Northern, and Atlantic Canada, aged 18 and over, through an eight-month program (from September to April). The goal is to help participants strengthen and professionalize their artistic and entrepreneurial approach. This fully funded program is made possible thanks to Musicaction’s program : Soutien aux entrepreneur·e·s et organismes CLOSM initiative. Although the program is delivered in French, instrumental projects, regardless of the language of communication, as well as those created in Indigenous languages are also welcome.

L'Arrière Scène Backstage is a training and mentorship project for Canadian musical artists, managed by Music·Musique NB and la Société Chant’Ouest. It’s goal is to support artists in their professional development by helping them build self-management and entrepreneurial skills. The program includes courses, personalized support, and covers topics such as artistic identity, career management, grant-writing, tour booking, copyright management and album marketing.
Selected singer-songwriters from Western, Northern and Atlantic Canada will participate in bi-weekly virtual sessions and benefit from guidance provided by Alexis Normand and Vincent Quirion, along with other music industry professionals, to help them reach their goals.
Pending available funding, artists may also have the opportunity to take part in networking events such as Breakout West and Semaine Musique NB Week.
General Eligibility Conditions

Must be a musical artist over 18 years old at the time of application;

Must reside in Western Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Nunavut or Yukon) or Atlantic Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland and Labrador);

The artist wants to develop career management skills in the music industry.
Specific Eligibility Conditions
- Be available to physically attend the following events: Subject to obtaining the necessary funding.

Be willing to dedicate a minimum of 8 hours per week to developing their professional career;

Individual artists, or those who are members of a band and who are represented by an industry professional or recognized organisation (agent, manager, etc.) are not eligible;
Benefits

Courses and mentoring sessions are offered part-time and are entirely virtual.

Registration fees, travel, and accommodation costs related to in-person events will be covered by the Société Chant'Ouest or by Music-Musique NB.

Artists will receive a per diem while attending in-person events.

Artists will be equipped with a multitude of documents, tools and templates that will be useful for many years.

Artists will have exclusive access to self-management software tailored to their specific needs.
Evaluation of Applications / Jury Composition
Eligible applications will be reviewed by a geographically-specific jury of music industry professionals. The jury’s decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
Program Outline

One 2-hour virtual class every two weeks

Individual virtual mentoring sessions: 1 hour per week with the mentor (schedule adapted to participants’ availability)

Attendance at the above-mentioned professional events (subject to funding).
