1. Amaigbo Town Union, United Kingdom (ATU UK) is committed to widening access to education for Amaigbo people.
ATU UK believes in offering support to candidates who have significant potential and would benefit and thrive in university education but whose financial circumstances prevent them from accessing university education.
2. ATU UK has therefore established the ATU UK Scholarship Scheme to be overseen by its Scholarship Board.
3. The ATU UK Scholarship Scheme will support successful candidates with the sum of five hundred thousand naira (₦500,000) for the first academic year and, subject to satisfying the conditions for renewal as indicated in paragraph I (13) below, may be renewed for a duration not exceeding four (4) academic years, making it potentially a maximum of five (5) years in duration.
4. The Scholarship is means tested and awarded at the discretion of ATU UK to Amaigbo people who meet the eligibility criteria and are successful at the scholarship interview.
5. Candidates must be an Amaigbo son, daughter or wife and must not be more than twenty-five (25) years old at the date of the application. The Scholarship is not open to married men of any age.
6. Any individual who satisfies the criteria in paragraph 5 above and is admitted to the Bar Part II course of the Nigerian Law School can make an application under the Scholarship Scheme.
7. While the ATU UK Scholarship is open to students and alumni of all secondary schools in Nigeria, priority may be given to those of King Jaja High School and Dick Tiger Memorial Secondary School in Amaigbo.
8. The number of Scholarship awards is at the discretion of ATU UK and are for placement in federal or state government-owned universities in Nigeria approved by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) and for accredited undergraduate courses or for the Bar Part II course of the Nigerian Law School as indicated in paragraph I (6) above.
9. Scholarships are reviewed regularly and ATU UK reserves the right to withdraw, amend or introduce new scholarships at any time. Scholarships are offered subject to availability of funds.
10. There is an expectation that successful candidates would complete their studies and would maintain academic excellence and display good character throughout the period of their studies.
11. There is an expectation that candidates should notify ATU UK if their financial circumstances improve before and after the award of the Scholarship and throughout the period of their studies.
12. ATU UK reserves the right to verify information and documents submitted as part of, and following, the Scholarship application, for the renewal of the Scholarship, at any time during the candidate’s studies, and as evidence of the candidate’s academic performance or character.
13. Scholarships are not automatically renewed each academic year. Once a candidate has been awarded a Scholarship, it will be reviewed each academic year and continuity of the Scholarship is dependent on a successful review in each year of study. The yearly review will include the consideration of evidence of good academic performance and good character as the ATU UK may require from time to time.
14. If a candidate supplies false or misleading information on the application form or during the interview or at any time before the completion of the scholarship period, ATU UK reserves the right to request repayment of the value of the award for the period from the commencement of the Scholarship.
15. If a candidate withdraws, or is excluded or expelled, from their studies before the completion of the Scholarship period, ATU UK reserves the right to request repayment of the value of the award for the period from the commencement of the scholarship to the date of withdrawal.
16. Candidates may be asked to provide further supporting documentation if an award is offered to them. Original documents may be requested from candidates.
17. Candidates are required to submit the details of two referees/guarantors who are from Amaigbo. Referees/guarantors should have personal knowledge of, and can attest to the candidate’s financial circumstances if approached by ATU UK. One of the referees/guarantors must be the candidate’s village/ward chairman who will be able to attest to the candidate’s financial circumstances if approached by ATU UK.
18. Successful candidates who are awarded a Scholarship are expected to act as ambassadors for ATU UK Scholarship Scheme and may be asked to contribute to education-related promotional activities and campaigns.
19. You can only submit this application form once and by the deadline of 4 September 2025. Late and incomplete applications will not be considered.
20. This COMPLETED application form must be SAVED as a PDF and then SUBMITTED along with the Supporting Documentation by email to atuukscholarship@gmail.com.
21. The following factors are to be considered when assessing suitability for the ATU UK Scholarship:
- Applicant's application form.
- Applicant's results for the Senior School Certificate Examination of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the Senior School Certificate Examination of the National Examination Council (NECO) and the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Where an applicant relies on their WAEC and NECO SSCE results, both sets of examinations must each be completed in one sitting.
- Evidence of admission to a Nigerian government university approved by NUC and for an accredited undergraduate course (or if applying for a scholarship for the Bar Part II course, evidence of the applicant’s LLB result and of admission to the Nigerian Law School).
- Applicant's financial status and need.
- Applicant's performance at interview, if shortlisted.
22. ATU UK will notify candidates by email or other means about the outcome of their applications.
23. The decision of ATU UK is final and it cannot, regrettably, participate in any individual correspondence with candidates before or after that decision.
