No one in my immediate family, or living in my house, has ever been convicted of animal cruelty, neglect, or abandonment.

I have read, understand, and agree to act in accordance with the guidelines for volunteers provided below:

a. I will act in an ethical and professional manner at all times while representing the Cavalier Rescue Coalition and will keep the best interests of the Cavalier breed and the rescue organization paramount.

b. I will not engage in private rescue of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, i.e., take in and sell or re-home Cavaliers privately, falsely represent to shelters, rescue groups, owners or other parties, that I am acting on Cavalier Rescue Coalition’s behalf when I am not, nor will I personally profit from adoptions of rescued Cavaliers.

c. I will keep the past history of the dog and details about its family (name, location, any identifying characteristics) confidential and agree not to disclose this information on social media sites or to other people.

d. I will keep adoption and volunteer applicant information private and will only use the applicant information for the purposes intended, i.e., to place a Cavalier Rescue Coalition rescue dog or certify a Cavalier Rescue Coalition volunteer.

e. I will respectfully abide by the rules of animal shelters, humane societies, veterinarians, spay/neuter clinics, and other rescue organizations regarding their policies toward rescue groups and conduct myself in a courteous, honest, and professional manner at all times with personnel affiliated with these organizations.

f. I recognize that each dog in foster care is, and remains, the property of Cavalier Rescue Coalition and will be turned over immediately to an elected, appointed, or duly delegated officer or rescue volunteer, upon request.

g. I understand that I may be held responsible for unapproved expenditures related to rescue, and that non-medical expenses such as food and mileage are normally not reimbursed.

h. I will provide every dog in my care with proper and sufficient food, water, shelter, training, medical care, health protection, companionship, supervised exercise, and humane treatment.

i. I will feed my foster dog a high quality dog food approved by the rescue.

j. I will not give my foster dog rawhide, pig's ears, cooked bones, or dental chews such as Greenies.

k. I will follow the Cavalier Rescue Coalition's Veterinary Protocol and will not obtain vaccines or treatment not covered without authorization by a rescue director.

l. I will use only approved veterinarians and will transport my foster dog(s) to veterinary appointments and spay/neuter clinics.

m. I will keep my foster dog on a leash with a harness, at all times, when outside and not in a securely fenced yard.

n. I will stay in close contact with the rescue directors about the status of any rescue dog in my care and will notify them immediately if my foster dog is lost, sick, or injured.

o. I will notify the rescue directors if I am unable to continue fostering a particular dog or if I am no longer interested or able to serve as a rescue volunteer.

p. I understand that I serve the group as a volunteer of the Cavalier Rescue Coalition and that my service to the group can be terminated at the discretion of the Board of Directors.

q. I understand that it is my responsibility to check my town/city requirements and act in accordance with the state and local regulations on the number of dogs, licensing and reporting.

r. If applicable, I will notify/check my condo/homeowners associations’ rules and act inaccordance with their respective by-laws.

I personally assume all responsibility and liability for any claim that arises through my own negligence or failure to act, including but not limited to my failure to follow the guidelines set forth by the organization and/or the terms of this Volunteer Agreement.

I understand that these guidelines may change over time and I agree that, to the best of my ability, I will stay informed of any changes and abide by them.
