  • Sinus Lift Post Operative

Follow these instructions in addition to your post operative information
  • The sinus lift is performed to increase the height of bone available for your implant(s). It is imperative that you follow the instructions that were provided carefully to maximise your healing and improve the long-term outcome of your sinus lift.

DO NOT (under any circumstance) smoke.

DO NOT (under any circumstance) blow your nose for the next 4 weeks. The pressure will delay or damage your sinus healing. Sniffing is okay but not blowing your nose.

DO NOT sneeze. If you have to sneeze, do NOT hold it back and sneeze with your mouth open. This will minimise the pressure in your nasal/sinus passages. This is also in effect for 4 weeks.

DO NOT use straws to drink for the next 4 weeks.

AVOID bending over or bearing down (as when lifting heavy objects), blowing up balloons, playing musical instruments that require a blowing action or any other activity that increases nasal or oral pressure.

Keeping your head elevated above your heart will also help post operative swelling. Most swelling can occur in the morning and up to 3 days after surgery. Avoid sleeping / laying on the side that surgery was performed, and for the first week keep your head propped up on one/two pillows when sleeping or lying down.

  • Take all the medications prescribed until they are finished, even if you feel fine. If you are experiencing an adverse reaction to any of the medications, such as nausea, vomiting, a rash or severe stomach irritation, discontinue the medication and contact us immediately.
