As you know, the fire service is dependent upon volunteer and combination departments. As a result, the VCOS is committed to providing the training and education of fire service professionals at all ranks. One of the ways it meets that commitment is through its annual Symposium in the Sun conference in November. This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Frank Byrne, who became a volunteer firefighter for Collingdale(PA) Fire Department #1 in 1947 and remained a life-long member. In his honor, the two award recipients of this scholarship will receive a full conference registration to the 2024 Symposium in the Sun from the VCOS along with a $1,500 stipend to help cover their hotel and travel expenses. In addition, VCOS will do its best to include scholarship awardees in its reserved block of rooms at the conference hotel IF the awardees request it to do so early. Awardees are responsible to make and pay for their own reservations. You need not be an IAFC or VCOS member to apply. Preference will be given to first-time Symposium in the Sun attendees. Thank you for your service. We hope that if you are not an award recipient, you still will attend the conference to continue your professional development and convey what you learn to others in your department.
