F.A.Q.
Q: What is AAU?
A: The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is a non-profit, volunteer sports organization in the United States. This is competitive basketball composed of a select team of girls chosen to represent Synergy Hoops. We pride ourselves in giving opportunities to girls on and off the court. We also pride ourselves on player development and increasing confidence.
Q: When does the Season Start?
A: The Synergy Hoops Fall season usually runs from October to the end of January. Practices occur twice a week on weeknights. Game days are usually 2 day tournaments held on Saturday (2 games guarantee) and Sunday (1 game guarantee).
Q: Is there traveling involved?
A: Yes. Most of our tournaments are within New York. There may be the occasional tournaments in other states which would require an overnight stay. Number of tournaments varies per team but you should plan on at least 5-6 tournaments.
Q: How does AAU competition rank with other local basketball programs?
A: AAU basketball is considered the premier level of basketball for amateur players. This is a very competitive level of basketball. If your daughter is someone that loves basketball and is serious about becoming a better player, then AAU competition is what she needs to improve.
Q: Does this interfere with sports like softball, lacrosse or soccer?
A: The AAU season is not an every day every week commitment. All games are played on the weekends and these do not take up every weekend. Coaches try to accommodate all schedules to the best of their abilities.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: You can estimate the cost to be $650. We will be fundraising to help cover some of the cost of the program. The cost per player covers gym rental for practices, tournament fees, and cost of uniform. Once coaches have selected tournaments and teams have been made we will have a better idea of actual cost.
Q: At what grade levels will you have teams?
A: This varies year to year. This season we plan on having a team starting at grade 4/5 up through Grade 9.
