Aorangi Vets Pre-Lamb 2024
  • Pre-lamb Order Form 2024

The choices you make during the pre-lamb period can have a big impact on the number and size of lambs you get at weaning and how the ewes will go on to perform next season. Parasites, clostridial, vitamins and minerals are some key, inter-related factors to consider at this time.

This year we are pleased to be able to offer a "large farm" pre-lamb deal on Ultravac 5in1 clostridial vaccine and more! See below for more details.

Please complete the areas below to give us an indication of your requirements, we will then give you a call to follow up and discuss any options.

    • The pre-lamb vaccination given to ewes is critical in protecting lambs from clostridial disease during the first few weeks of their life. For lambs to get that protection they need to be vigorous and get up and drink within hours of birth. But ewes also need to be well conditioned and healthy to respond to their vaccination and make high levels of colostral antibody.

Aorangi Vet Services are proud to supply only high quality vaccines that have been subject to rigorous testing and are backed by reliable good science and technical support.

This season we have teamed up with our suppliers and are pleased to be able to offer "large farm" discount on selected products. Order a total of 10,000 doses of Ultravac clostridial vaccine (this can be for ewes pre-lamb as well as lambs at tailing) for delivery any time before 31 Decemeber (orders must be placed by 30th November) and save 10% on thise vaccine or 15% if ordering more than 15,000 doses.

Plus add your pre-order of tailing supplies, scabby mouth vaccine or Marathon LA (long acting moxidectin) and save 5% on selected products.

    • Internal Parasite Treatment
    • Internal Parasite Treatment

    • Mixed-age ewes is lambing in good body condition (BCS 3.0 or more) eating high ME and high protein feed (perhaps 1600kgDM/ha clover and grass mix) are able to deal with the inevitable incoming worm challenge and although the stress of lambing and lactation may transiently reduce their ability to kill worms, by tailing, if feed supply is still beating feed demand, they will regain their immunity and get rid of any worm burden.

Ewes lambing in light condition, or young ewes (hoggets or two-tooths) and those with multiples are under more pressure and may require a drench pre-lamb. This groups is even more critical for feeding well as the pressure of late pregnancy and lactation will pull vital reserves off their backs, ultimately leading to higher lamb and ewe losses and few kgs of lambs at weaning.

    • Oral Drench

The pressures of winter and pregnancy take their toll on ewes and parasites gain an advantage. Assessing the worm burden in your ewes is an important part of your parasite management planning.

Here at Aorangi Vet Services we supply only top quality drench with proven results and strict quality control measures. While we maintain our long standing support for Boehringer Ingelheim (formally Merial-Ancare) in the supply of top quality drenches such as Matrix we are excited to support a locally owned and operated drench company Alleva.

Alleva Animal Health is a New Zealand owned and operated company, with strong local support and knowledge. Alleva have a committed focus on the New Zealand ruminant industry and are at the forefront of developing innovative products for our local market. With Alleva we are pleased to introduce BOSS Triple Hi Min another top quality triple combination oral drench for sheep.

    • Lamb survival is affected by vigour at birth; the ability to get up and drink colostrum despite the cold, wind and rain. Ewes are likely to become deficient in vitamin E during the winter being fed brassicas and conserved feed such as hay and silage. The result of that deficiency can be free radical damage to the lambs – muscle damage and poor immunity causing lambs to be born weak and unable to get up and feed.

Vet LSD addresses this by providing antioxidants including Vitamin E and selenium along with iodine, chromium and vitamins A, D and C.
