We are a nationwide charitable trust that rehomes working breed dogs.
Our fosterers are an integral part of the rehoming process and provide valuable experience and socialisation for these dogs to prepare them for their lives in family homes.
When you foster for RWDNZ, we will provide all the food and cover all of the necessary veterinary treatment required by the dog while in your care. We ask that you provide a safe environment, a warm, dry sleeping area and bedding, food/water bowls, and, if possible, a lead and collar (we can provide the latter if needed).
We only rehome working and working breed dogs (NZ Huntaway, NZ Heading Dog, Beardie, Smithfield, Border Collie, Kelpie) and pig hunting dogs.
The main types of dogs we require foster homes for are:
-Retired working and hunting dogs
-"Failed" working and hunting dogs.
-Dogs which have sustained career-ending injuries and need surgery and rehabilitation
-Working/hunting breed pups
-Working/hunting breed pet dogs.
Some of these dogs will never have been inside a home before and need house/toilet training.
We have no requirement that dogs sleep inside a home as long as they have a safe, warm and dry outdoor area to sleep.
We do our best to match dogs to the right foster homes; however, if things are not working out with the foster dog in your home, we will move them elsewhere. Please be aware that this may take a few days, but in the case of an emergency, we will ensure that the dog is moved urgently.
Please ensure that if you have any dogs of your own, they are fully up to date with vaccinations before applying to foster with us.
Once you have submitted the form, we will be in touch with you via email. Please give us adequate time to complete this process (approximately one week). Foster homes that are accepted will need to undergo a property inspection and a vet/council reference check.
Please be aware that we may not accept your application. These denied applications will be deleted so that we are not storing your personal information unnecessarily.
Retired Working Dogs NZ will do their utmost to keep your personal information secure; however, you must be aware that there are always risks involved when filling out an online form.
Thank you so much for applying to foster for us!
