About
The Export Lamb Competition aims to identify the best lamb producer in Hawke’s Bay. The competition has a two-part judging process; on the hoof and of the hook. Entrants receive a complimentary ticket to the Hawke's Bay A&P Show and along with staff are invited to attend the prizegiving which is also open to the public. AFFCO New Zealand and the Hawke's Bay A&P Society extend a warm welcome to all interested farmers to enter the Export Lamb Competition.
Classes
NEW SEASON LAMB
(under 6 months of age)
16.0-22.9kg HCW, 4.15mm GR
(Targets: 17-19kg HCW, 8-10mm GR)

OLD SEASON LAMB
(over 6 months of age)
18.0-26.9kg HCW, 4-15mm GR
(Targets: 20-22kg HCW, 8-10mm GR)

Judging Criteria
The pen of three (3) is judged on a combination of:
One the Hoof - the live animals are judged on their condition, conformation, presentation and evenness at Tomoana Showground by an AFFCO Livestock Buyer.
On the Hook - the slaughtered animals are judged on GR measurement, weight and grade, carcass confirmation and evenness at the AFFCO Plant.
Prizes
For each class, the following prizes will be awarded
- Best pen of three on hoof, 1st place $100
- Best pen of three on hook, 1st place $100
- Champion combined hoof & hook, $150
- Overall Supreme Champion Carcass - awarded across both new and old season lambs, $300 Ideal weight 22kg HCW, 8mm GR, best Dress Out Yield.
