What's happening:
A terrible tragedy on March 16th prompted an examination by SFMTA of traffic flow and conditions in the West Portal Area.
The community has “decades of stored knowledge” and has loudly voiced significant concerns about the SFMTA options presented so far; some of those concerns have been echoed by SFMTA Board members.
The community welcomes SFMTA assistance with upgrading safety in West Portal. However, the community does not support spending money the SFMTA doesn’t have on a plan that has much more viable and cost-effective solutions.
Despite leveraging a dusted-off version of SFTMA’s 2019 Muni transit plan and rebranding it as a "safety" proposal, SFMTA/MUNI has not, or chooses not, to consider other options that might alleviate the issues its buses cause in the intersection.
The “Welcome West Portal Committee” offered several suggestions, and we are asking that the SFMTA explore those relatively simple changes.
Please take 1 minute to send this pre-populated email (you can also edit it) that will be sent to the SFMTA Board, Supervisor Melgar, Mayor Breed and the Board of Supervisors today!
