Data Management in Bio-/Evo-/Eco- labs
  • Help us understand data management around the world!

At the EVO|MEC lab, we aim to design a powerful data management software, for anyone who collects and maintains organisms and/or takes samples and data from them. Through this questionnaire, we want to find out how we can facilitate your own data management.
  • If you are interested in using EvoNEST, at the end of the questionnaire you can leave us your contact and we will write you and help you set everything up.

If you want to try a Demo, login into EvoNEST with the credentials:

    user: demo
    password: Demonest0

  • The questionnaire should take you approx. 8 minutes to complete

  • All data is used only for the named reason and will never be sold to third parties.

  • Collection of Organisms

    1/6
  • Do you collect and keep organisms in your lab?*
  • How many different species do you keep in the lab?
  • How does your lab store information about samples (e.g. how many samples are available in the lab, when where they collected)?
  • Why are you collecting data in the above mentioned way(s)?
  • Do your organisms need maintenance (e.g. feeding, cleaning)?
  • If yes, how does your lab store information about sample maintenance (e.g. when were samples fed, which tank was cleaned)?
  • Comparative studies

    2/6
  • Do you run comparative studies, i.e. comparing properties/traits between species?*
  • What is the highest taxonomic hierarchical level you work with in your lab?
  • What tools do you use to run your comparative analysis?
  • Behavioural studies

    3/6
  • Do you run behavioural studies in your lab?*
  • How does your lab store behavioural data?
  • Why are you collecting data in the above mentioned way(s)?
  • Morphological studies

    4/6
  • Do you run morphological studies in your lab?*
  • How do you keep track of the morphological data?
  • Why are you collecting data in the above mentioned way(s)?
  • Which data format do you use to keep track of the data?
  • Repositories

    5/6
  • Do you import data from external database?*
  • Do you publish the data from your lab alongside the scientific articles?*
  • If you ever published data, what do you usually publish?
  • Does your data respect the FAIR data principles? (Wilkinson et al. 2016. Scientific Data 3 (1): 160018.,https://doi.org/10.1038/sdata.2016.18)
  • Data Management App

    6/6
  • Where do you currently store large data, e.g. images, videos, and other files > 100 MB?
  • Which app functions would you find useful for your lab's data management? Please select all features that would be of use for you.
