  • Volunteer Agreement

  • Please carefully read the agreement below:

As a Romero House volunteer, I agree:

    • To treat Romero House’s residents and walk-ins with respect and dignity, and to refrain from asking about personal details of their story, while being open to hear what they choose to share.
    • To be flexible and agreeable when changes arise, given the ever-changing needs and complex, fast-moving work of Romero House.
    • To ask for help when I need it and raise any difficulties or challenges with the team member supervising my work.
    • To contact the appropriate Romero team member with any concerns I have about the safety of families or children or the behaviour of other volunteers or workers.
    • That the needs of Romero House must be prioritized above my desire to volunteer or enjoyment of any benefits of volunteering.

As an organisation, Romero House agrees:

    • To value and recognise the role that your commitment plays in achieving our goals and working with those in the Romero community.
    • To strive to make the best use of your time, energy and skills for the good of our residents and others we serve.
    • To support you should you need help and if your volunteering becomes emotionally challenging.
    • To provide references upon request for the time you have spent volunteering with us.
  • Confidentiality Agreement

  • Confidentiality is very important in the work we do at Romero House. Please read the agreement below:

I hereby acknowledge that I understand that in the course of carrying out my volunteer duties at Romero House, I may have access to information, files and records that are privileged and confidential.

I understand the importance of not disclosing any such information regarding refugees, tenants, walk-in clients and any private and administrative information of Romero House to anyone outside the organization without approval, except where required by law to disclose knowledge of abusive behavior to the appropriate civil authorities.

I acknowledge that any breach of this trust could have serious consequences for the people concerned and for the organization, and lead to the termination of my involvement as a Romero House volunteer.

I understand that I may at times have access to personal information on applicants, residents, employees and walk-in clients and that the Social Housing Reform Act and the Privacy Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) place legal restrictions on how Romero House disposes of, collects, uses, and stores this information. I understand that I can ask to read a copy of the Romero House Confidentiality Policy and Procedures which outlines these restrictions.

I agree to use all reasonable efforts to respect the privacy and confidentiality of Romero House’s residents, walk-ins, and staff.

  • Harassment Policy

  • Romero House is committed to providing an environment free of discrimination and harassment, including sexual harassment, in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, and can contribute fully, and have equal opportunities.
