  • What is YDAPP?

The Koreatown Youth & Community Center’s Youth Drug Abuse Prevention Program (YDAPP) is part of the Prevention Education Unit, which is funded by the County of Los Angeles, Department of Public Health, Substance Abuse Prevention and Control. YDAPP is a 10-month leadership program designed to give opportunities for students to engage with the community in a fun and hands–on way in order to address substance abuse and learn about prevention.

Participants meet on a weekly basis (Thursdays from 5:00PM-6:30PM) for leadership trainings and to plan events, conduct peer education, and community service opportunities. At its core, YDAPP is designed to provide youth with the opportunity to grow emotionally, socially, and mentally by challenging themselves and engaging with the community in order to become youth leaders.

Members will learn how to work as a team, overcome personal obstacles, communicate with others, and become community advocates.  YDAPP activities include participation in drug-free events such as socials, youth participatory action research projects, and volunteering for community events such as town hall meetings, community clean ups and the 5k run.  YDAPP is a place where members build new friendships, take on new challenges, and learn from one another.

  • YDAPP History

YDAPP was established in September of 1996 by the High School Korean American Youth Leadership Program as a pilot community project. Since then, YDAPP has become a permanent youth program and has achieved milestone successes.

  • YDAPP Mission & Vision

YDAPP's mission is to train youth advocates among Koreatown, Pico Union, & Westlake to raise awareness by learning about the causes and effects of underage drinking and substance use, as well as its associated risks. YDAPP aims to bring an uplifting and protective environment where we educate each other and learn about the importance of growth.

  • YDAPP Attendance Policies

Attendance: Attendance and participation is one of the most important components of the YDAPP program. YDAPP members are expected to attend every meeting, unless prior notice is given within 48hrs in advance.

Signing in/out: Members will need to create an account through the VolunteerMatters program and sign up for YDAPP meetings through the system. Everyone in YDAPP is required to sign in and out on the day of meetings, as well as on the physical sign-in sheet. Tardies: Any member who is going to be late must notify the facilitators 30 minutes prior to the start of the meeting.

Absences:  Any member who cannot attend a YDAPP meeting must notify the facilitators as soon as possible. However, it should be no later than 24 hours before the meeting time. We will inform the members of events at least 1 month in advance to ensure participation. You have 3 allowed absences per semester during your 10 month commitment to YDAPP. More than 3 absences per semester will result in dismissal from YDAPP.

Sports Absence: Any member involved with school activities must let the YDAPP Coordinator know by September.  They must submit their game/practice schedule at the beginning of their season. They need to attend at least 3 meetings during their sports season; in addition, they must also commit to creating projects for the YDAPP group.

Communication: Regular and open communication with other YDAPP members and KYCC staff is one of the most important aspects of YDAPP functioning as a team.  This means replying promptly to all communications via phone, text message, email or Discord.

Phone: If you are contacted by other YDAPP members or KYCC staff, you are expected to reply as soon as possible.  This is to help ensure that things are always moving forward and the group is not being held back by a lack of information or participation by one member who is not in communication with the group.

Discord: All YDAPP members are expected to check Discord regularly.
