  • Terms and Agreement


    * Liability: The staff of the ODPC BAND ACADEMY will do their best to ensure all possible safety measures for you during the workshop. However, the church, staffs, church member will not assume any liability for injury, damage, and/or illness incurred during the workshop hours. I understand that I will waive this for any matter during the workshop and it will be at your own risk.

    * Medical Treatment: In case of emergency, I or as a guardian will give permission to the church to use this information to treat myself or my child or self.

  • Photo Release Agreement

    We promise that the pictures taken during the camp will not be shared with any third parties or used for commercial purposes. They will be archived, and only some of them will be posted on OBA’s social media or website. We would love to have you in our pictures, but if you absolutely cannot be in the pictures, a sticker will be given to you when you first check in on Monday. Please let the staffs know.

    * Voice - Singer-Songwriting focuses on the creative process of writing original songs through melodies, lyrics, and chord progressions. Students will learn how to transform their personal experiences and ideas into music while developing their understanding of song structure, expression, and musical creativity. No instrumental skills are required. Students enrolled in this class are required to participate in the Singer-Songwriting Ensemble session to further develop and perform their original works.

    * Keyboard - AI Songwriting & Production introduces students to a modern approach to songwriting and music production using keyboard performance and AI-based tools. Students will learn how melodies, chord progressions, and musical ideas can be developed through keyboard playing and explored further using platforms such as SUNO. Through hands-on experience with AI technology, students will discover new ways to create, arrange, and produce original music while developing their understanding of the creative process.

    * Keyboard - Auxiliary Keyboard : Orchestration & Arrangement focuses on the creative use of keyboard sounds and textures in contemporary music. Students will learn the fundamentals of synthesizer programming, sound selection, and how to use pads, strings, and other keyboard sounds to enhance musical arrangements. This class is especially beneficial for keyboard players who want to expand their role beyond traditional accompaniment and develop their skills in band, worship, and modern music settings.

  • Gospel-style music also derived from Blues and immensely influenced the history of church music. On top of the Blues style, the Gospel uses more altered chords and substitutions. Read the testing criteria to prepare for this ensemble. 

  • A group voice ensemble is a harmonious blend of voices. Participants will learn to sing unified in harmony and in rhythm. This ensemble is for the participants who chose the voice as their instrument.

  • Pop Ensemble focuses on performing contemporary popular music, likes of the music of Bruno Mars, Adele, Stevie Wonder, etc. Emphasis is placed on stylistic authenticity, stage presence, and ensemble cohesion. Please read the testing criteria to prepare for this ensemble placement.

  • Ballad Ensemble performs slow to medium tempo songs that are emotional, romantic, or gentle in style. Students focus on playing with expression and listening closely to each other. The music may include pop ballads, soft rock, and acoustic songs. Please read the testing criteria to prepare for this ensemble placement.

  • Rock music provides a dynamic and energetic aura. The group will use electrified instruments such as electric guitar, bass guitar, and synthesizers to perform classic rock, like Queen, the Beetles, and AC/DC. Read the testing criteria to prepare for this ensemble.

  • K-Pop has been popular all around the world for the last decade. The songs may be the latest K-pop songs in pop, disco, or electric dance. Read the testing criteria to prepare for this ensemble.

  • Blues is the foundation of all contemporary music. As this genre is a direct derivation of Jazz, participants will be familiar with the style and still feel comfortable playing the songs. In the core of this genre, “call and response” takes place. This ensemble will teach not only to utilize the “blues notes” and the pentatonic scales over the 12-bar blues progression, but also to musically communicate among the performers. Read the testing criteria to prepare for this ensemble.

  • A percussion ensemble uses various pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments. This ensemble will teach the essential part of musicianship and will help students understand how rhythms can work together to create a beautiful harmony. This ensemble is for the participants who chose drums as their instrument.

  • A guitar ensemble comprises guitar players who will play several parts to create a holistic arrangement. Some will play melody while others may play accompaniment and countermelody lines. This ensemble is for the participants who chose a guitar as their instrument.

  • Jazz ensemble uses sophisticated harmonic structures and improvisations. As an American popular music of the 1900s, Jazz covers a variety of styles – from standards to fusion. Read the testing criteria to prepare for this ensemble.

  • Funk is a fusion between many different genres, but predominantly Jazz and Rock. Distinctive basslines along with tasty guitar riffs make the genre enjoyable and easy to listen to. Read the testing criteria to prepare for this ensemble.

  • A rhythm section ensemble helps students understand how different instruments can come together to complement each other and play as a cohesive group. Intermediate musicians can greatly benefit from participating in this ensemble, as it offers an opportunity to elevate their musicianship to the next level. 

  • Praise and Worship has seen a rapid change in the contemporary music scenes. From U-2-style rock, Jazz, Gospel, and Electronic, Praise and Worship covers many different genres. This ensemble will focus on the music style of general church music settings with a small combo and harmonious vocal lines. Read the testing criteria to prepare for this ensemble.

  • Elevation Worship Ensemble will focus on the style of Elevation Worship, characterized by a modern and dynamic worship sound with innovative textures. The ensemble will explore a variety of effects through the use of keyboards, guitars, and possibly looping and backing tracks.

    Please make sure your entire upper body, including your face, is shown in the audition video.

    The audition video will be used primarily for ensemble placement, so it should demonstrate the musician’s ability to play collaboratively within a group or band setting. We are looking for evidence of chordal knowledge, comping ability, and rhythmic versatility—key skills necessary for successful ensemble playing. The video should showcase how well the musician listens, supports, and interacts musically, rather than simply performing solo repertoire. Detailed descriptions of the required skills and evaluation criteria can be found on our website.

    * The placement test will last about 3 to 5 minutes each.

    * If you fail to appear at the placement test, you will be placed in an ensemble chosen by directors.

    * If you have no preference for an ensemble and chose not to be tested, please notify us via email.
