Present Mississippi: Artist Exchange FY25 and FY26
The Mississippi Presenters' Network is a collective of Arts-Based organizations that develops programs that promote collaboration between organizations that have arts-based programming. The goal is to build a network of professional arts leaders who work together to share knowledge that builds strong, sustainable arts and cultural programs reflective of Mississippi. Our 2024FY Season of Artist Exchanges were a success! We were able to fund 4 exchanges across the state that encouraged new, diverse, partnerships and collaboration from region to region. We have secured new financial partners which will allow us to fund additional projects for the next two years.
Project Overview
What if funding existed for you to work with a new partner within Mississippi? MSPN recognizes that for artists making connections with arts presenters is a challenge. While arts presenters are often reluctant to test new programs, events, and artists. The Artist Exchange provides funding for both the arts presenters and the artists who have not worked together previously to collaborate to support new partnerships. Funds can support the time, space, and resources for a venue to work with an artist or art form they have not presented in their community. Artists can use the funds to compensate for their time, performance, or work to develop content for the collaboration. The size of the project is not important. The goal is to focus on building networks between the artists who reside in Mississippi and the art presenters from community festivals, local libraries, arts centers, and performing arts centers. Through this effort, we believe presenters and artists can test new ideas building programs that are reflective of our State and providing support that creates a supportive environment for artists. Simply put - this funding will support an artist and arts presenter learning how to work together.
Guidelines
Proposal Window: July 1st to October 15th, 2024 5PM Central Time 1. Projects should connect two organizations that have not previously worked together. 2. Organizations must be from different regions of the State (Hills, Delta, Coast, Central, Pines). 3. Projects that engage and expand participating organizations' artistic offerings are encouraged. 4. Projects must be completed by May 30, 2025 or by May 30th, 2026. 5. Program is open to any arts presenter(s) in Mississippi. Applicants are not required to be MSPN members. 6.Each partner receives equal funding. Up to $1000 per artist and $1000 per arts presenter
The Anticipated Outcome
Through this experiment, MSPN seeks to: 1. Connect Mississippi artists and presenters who have previously not worked together. 2. Build relationships between organizations to assist in making space for everyone to be seen and valued. 3. Create collaborative projects that meet the need of the arts presenter and artist. This is not a grant to hire an artist but for two groups to work together leveraging the skills, resources, and talents to create connections between artists in Mississippi, and hopefully within the community. 4. Increase the capacity of artists and arts presenters by providing organizations with funding to develop new programs, test presenting new artists/ art forms, and invest in building skills of artists and arts organizations
