More about the program:
Tabby Studio is a weaving residency program with flexibility to cater to new and seasoned weavers. Residents live on-site in a 1B1B apartment including a full kitchen connected to the weaving studio. Instruction varies on the type of residency, from daily one-on-one lessons, to total independent studio time. This residency is meant to be tailored to each weaver, and it is our intention to accommodate diverse projects, artists, and goals. There is one resident per session but we are open to collaborators, couples, and families being in residence together.
There are three options for residencies:
- Weaving 101: Two-Week Recommended
Monday-Friday 9A-3P one-on-one instruction. This residency is ideal for folks wanting to start their own weaving practice. The two week course will cover the basics of yarn selection, warping, loom mechanics, and introductory to intermediate weaving techniques. Residents can expect to leave with one large sampler and one small piece.
- Project-Based Residency: One or Two-Week Recommended
Monday-Friday 9A-3P one-on-one instruction. This residency is ideal for folks who intend to complete a project in residence, rather than learn all the basics of the loom. Possible ideas could include a coverlet, baby blanket, yardage for garment construction, wall hanging, or rug. Timing for this residency is based on the discretion of the instructor.
- Independent Residency
This residency is ideal for seasoned weavers who simply need time, space, and solitude to work. Optional meetings with Kimberly including studio visits and family dinners are available upon request. Residents must provide examples of woven work in order to be considered for an Independent Residency.
