We, the undersigned, demand the intervention of the state legislature in enacting stronger protections for rent-stabilized tenants to safeguard their right to affordable housing. This petitioner demands the following:
- NYC Rent Guidelines Board to reduce recent rent hikes for rent-stabilized tenants.
- The intervention of the state legislature in remedying the legal loophole of Section 2524.5 of the Rent Stabilization Code, to prevent its massive evictions by developers like Gary Barnett.
- Legal protections for rent-stabilized tenants to protect both the 1 million rent-stabilized units and over 2.5 million tenants who have been jeopardized.
This petition supports the campaign Save Affordable Rent, in collaboration with MET Council on Housing and The Black Institute, to address the city’s urgent housing crisis.
