    Thank you for your support of BIR and our volunteer needs. Responses will be shared with Amanda Pekasky and Kathy Kalstrup who will reach out to engage respondents and provide more information about the item you signed up for. Please submit your interest by September 13th.
  • Description of Tasks

    Review BIR's current list of needs, which includes: people needed, skills and equipment required, and time commitment. Signup for tasks you are available to help with in the next section.
  • EVENT SUPPORT

    1. At Home REGATTAS - this year it's Brown Bear Cup - sponsored race

    *** Event is SEPTEMBER 28th *** - if you want to row, we can find a role that works for BOTH. 

    • Goal to have volunteers help day before with setup + day-of role
      • 1-2 People Check-In 
      • 1 Person Great Room (food/drink/flow of people - answering questions)
      • 1 Person Great Room (MC) 
      • 1 Videographer/Photographer
      • 2 Beach Masters
      • 1-2 Boat Bay Captains 
      • 1-2 First Aid
      • 2 Regatta Kitchen Leads - Kim and Chris confirmed
        • 3-5 Kitchen Support

    2. Annual Auction

    • Unlimited People!
    • We are looking for pre-event and day of support 
      • General help, decorations, activities, greeter/flow management

    3. Community Engagement Events

    • We are looking for people to join our community engagement committee! Love planning and executing parties, socials, and get togethers? Maybe you just love to have fun - this is the team for you. This group will support with BIR lead events (ex. Bingo at the Boathouse) + support with BI events BIR is part of (ex. 4th of July)

    EQUIPMENT & MAINTENANCE

    5. Power Wash Deck around Boat House - FULL - NEED HAS BEEN MET

    6. Deconstruct Hose Reel in Boathouse - FULL - NEED HAS BEEN MET

    7. Sand and oil outside stair rail SW corner of Boathouse: FULL - NEED HAS BEEN MET

    • 4 people
    • No skills required; Sander(s) needed (or interest in hand sanding);
    • 4 hrs total with sander, onetime

    8. Flush launch engines:- FULL - NEED HAS BEEN MET

    • 2 People to rotate task
    • No skills or tools required; Ability to get on and off launch at dock and carry 15 pounds;
    • 1 hr, every two weeks (No need to be intimidated by this task. Easiest on the list)

    9. Construct Boat Component Maintenance Table:

    • 1- 2 People:
    • Construction ability to construct a rolling cart with shelves; tools needed to execute
    • Dependent on construction ability; onetime

    10. Construct Boat Track Storage Rack and Boat Stay Storage Rack:

    • 1- 2 People
    • Basic carpentry skills (and tools)
    • 4-5 hrs, onetime

    11. Launch Maintenance Team FULL - NEED HAS BEEN MET

    • 6 People
    • No skills or tools required; Periodic cleaning and painting, ensuring manner to tie to dock is effective, leak repair, trailer maintenance, etc. We now have a jack which has dramatically improved the safety and efficiency of this process which can now be performed by fewer people at the boathouse.
    • Each launch takes 1 hour to clean + time to pick up / return trailer
    • 6 launches to be cleaned every 2 months

    12. Truck Maintenance and Shell Trailer Repair and Maintenance Team

    • 4 People
    • No skills or tools required; Maintain Pickup truck (clean out, wash, oil change, etc); Assess repair (paint, diamond plate affixing) and maintenance needs of trailer and execute;
    • TBD based on trailer assessment. Ongoing time should me minimal

    13. Boat Rack, Oar Rack, Rigger Rack Maintenance Team

    • 6 People (do not need to be onsite all at same time).
    • No skills required; Ability to lift / move boats with team. No other skills required; Remove rust, re-attach bumpers, replace roller bearings, paint racks, etc;
    • 4 hours per month

    14. Maintenance of grounds FULL - NEED HAS BEEN MET

    • Unlimited people!
    • No skills required; pull weeds around boathouse in and in park district property to east, ensure new beds created on North side are nicely maintained; Tool needs: blow torches for weeds in gravel
    • Routinely and as needed as determined by coordinator

    15. Safety Inventory  FULL - NEED HAS BEEN MET                                                                                   

    • 1-2 people 
    • No skills or tools required; perform monthly/quarterly quality assurance for certian safety elements of BIR (fire extinguishers, AEDs, PFDs, launch (Kippy Liddle) bags, ect), and report to safety office for board reporting 
    • 60-90 mins per month in total 

    16. Oar Maintenance Team FULL - NEED HAS BEEN MET  

    • 4- 6  people
    • No skills or tools required; perform repair and maintenance of oars in partnership with Boatman
    • ~60-90 mins per month
