Each year, the Maricopa County Medical Society presents the Future Healer Medical Student Award to recognize medical school students who demonstrate exceptional dedication, compassion, and promise in their pursuit of becoming future healthcare professionals. Recipients of this award exhibit outstanding academic achievement, leadership qualities, and a deep commitment to serving others and improving healthcare outcomes.
Nominations will be accepted from May 1st through August 1st. Each candidate is carefully assessed to determine the degree to which they fulfills each of the requirements according to the criteria established. Announcements will be made by August 30, 2026.
The criteria for the Future Healer Award are as follows:
1. Demonstrates outstanding academic performance, achieving high grades and mastering complex medical concepts and skills;
2. Exhibits empathy, compassion, and sensitivity in interactions with patients, families, and peers, recognizing the importance of holistic patient care;
3. Displays leadership qualities and actively engages in service activities, volunteering, or community outreach initiatives aimed at addressing healthcare disparities and improving access to care;
4. Upholds the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity in all aspects of medical practice, fostering trust and confidence among patients and colleagues;
5. Demonstrates innovative thinking and collaborative problem-solving skills, contributing to advancements in medical research, education, or patient care delivery.
This award recognizes and demonstrates the valuable contributions that medical students will make to their profession and community.
