Which of the following procedures did you have to remove the broken pieces?
*
Laparoscopic surgery – This involves the insertion of a small endoscopic device with a camera through the cervix and into the uterine cavity in the hopes of removing the broken pieces of the Paragard. This type of removal will usually not be possible if the fragmented pieces have become embedded in the uterine wall already.
Laparotomy surgery – This is an open incision of the uterus that is similar to a c-section
Hysterectomy – In a worst-case scenario, the doctor may need to completely remove the uterus to spare the woman from severe side effects that would otherwise last a lifetime, a hysterectomy will leave the woman permanently infertile.
