Each year, the Maricopa County Medical Society presents the Resident of the Year Award to recognize an exceptional resident who demonstrate outstanding commitment, training, and compassion in delivering high-quality healthcare to their patients. Recipients of this award exhibit exemplary clinical skills, leadership qualities, and dedication to improving patient outcomes and overall healthcare delivery. Through their exceptional professionalism, innovation, and patient advocacy, they inspire trust and confidence among their patients, colleagues, and the community.
Nominations will be accepted from May 1st through August 1st. Each candidate is carefully assessed to determine the degree to which they fulfills each of the requirements according to the criteria established. Announcements will be made on August 30, 2026.
The criteria for the Resident of the Year Award are as follows:
1. Demonstrates exceptional proficiency in their medical specialty, consistently providing evidence-based, quality care to patients;
2. Exhibits empathy, compassion, and respect in interactions with patients, actively involving them in decision-making and addressing their individual needs and concerns;
3. Displays leadership qualities in promoting teamwork, and collaboration among healthcare teams to enhance patient care and organizational effectiveness;
4. Contributes to advancements in medical practice through innovative approaches, research initiatives, or quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and healthcare delivery;
5. Receives recognition and positive feedback from patients, peers, and healthcare organizations for their contributions to the field of medicine and the well-being of their patients.
This award recognizes and demonstrates the valuable contributions that residents make to their profession and community.
